Andrey Zhilikhovsky
The Moldovan baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky studied choral conducting and voice. Early in his career he won several competition prizes and appeared at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg as the Prince in the children’s opera Cinderella by Boris Asafiev, as Belcore (L’elisir d’amore), Schaunard (La bohème), Robert (Iolanta), Silvano (Un ballo in maschera), Baron Douphol (La traviata) and Dancaïro (Carmen).
In 2011 he made his debut as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Latvian National Opera in Riga. In the 2011/12 season he joined the Young Artists Program of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, where he has since appeared as Eugene Onegin, Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Dr Falke (Die Fledermaus), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Marcello (La bohème) and the Merchant of Venice in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sadko.
Further engagements have included Belcore and Andrey Bolkonsky (War and Peace) at the Bavarian State Opera, Robert at the Paris Opéra, Don Ferdinand (The Duenna) at the Berlin State Opera, Malatesta, Figaro and Don Giovanni at the Glyndebourne Festival, Figaro and Guglielmo at Washington National Opera, Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Komische Oper Berlin and the Edinburgh Festival, Yeletsky (Pique Dame) at the Liceu in Barcelona, and Marcello at the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Royal Opera House in London.
In the 2024/25 season he debuted as Posa (Don Carlos) at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki and performed Don Pedro in a concert version of Donizetti’s Maria Padilla at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, as well as Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera.
Current engagements include Lionel in Tchaikovsky’s The Maid of Orleans at Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, and Count Almaviva at the Royal Opera House in London.
