Bogdan Volkov
Named Singer of the Year 2025, Bogdan Volkov is one of the most sought-after young lyric tenors of his generation and has been acclaimed on the stages of the world’s leading opera houses, including La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Salzburg Festival, and the Vienna State Opera.
Most recently, he appeared as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Ferrando (Così fan tutte) at the Vienna State Opera, sang Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) and Alfredo (La traviata) at the Berlin State Opera, Lenski (Eugene Onegin) at the Hamburg State Opera, as well as Lenski and Tsarevich Gvidon in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tale of Tsar Saltan at Teatro Real Madrid. He also performed at the Shostakovich Festival 2025 in Leipzig’s Gewandhaus.
A particular success was his portrayal of Prince Myshkin in Weinberg’s The Idiot under Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla at the Salzburg Festival 2024.
In the 2025/26 season, his engagements include Falstaff at La Monnaie in Brussels; Don Giovanni, Dialogues des Carmélites, and Eugene Onegin at the Vienna State Opera; Die Zauberflöte at the Berlin State Opera; Eugene Onegin at the Paris Opéra; Iolanta at the Opéra de Rouen; and Così fan tutte at the Zurich Opera House.
He studied at the Glier Kyiv Institute of Music and graduated from the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine. He subsequently joined the Young Artists Program of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and later became a member of its ensemble, performing a wide range of roles. From 2022 to 2023, he was a member of the ensemble of the Berlin State Opera. He made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 2020.
