David Coria
David Coria (Seville, Spain) is one of the most important dancers of the flamenco avant-garde and, with his choreographic signature, creative aesthetics and the socio-political commitment of his works, one of the most interesting Spanish choreographers of the present day.
After his training at the school of the Compañía Andaluza de Danza, he became a member of the Ballet Nacional de España in Madrid at the age of 17. Artists such as Antonio Gades, Pilar López Júlvez, José Granero, Alberto Lorca and José Antonio had a lasting influence on his artistic development as well as his work as a member of the ensembles of Rocío Molina, Eva Yerbabuena and Rafaela Carrasco. From 2013 to 2016, David Coria was principal dancer, repetiteur and choreographer of Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía. Today he directs his own international renowned ensemble, the Cía Coria, for which he creates works that bring the tradition of Spanish dance into the present and are able to unleash the wide range of today’s topics in the art of flamenco.
In 2010, the German magazine tanz named David Coria »Hope of the Year«, in 2016 he was awarded the Lorca Prize as »Best Male Dancer«. For the production »Anónimo« he received the Audience Award at the Festival de Jerez 2019, for »¡Fandango!«, premiered in 2020 at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, the Dance Critics Award followed also in Jerez, as well as the Giraldillo Award for Best Performance at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. In 2022, he produced the collaborative dance piece »Imperfecto« with Jann Galois and their company »Burn Out« at the Théâtre National de Chaillot.
