Franz-Josef Selig
Franz-Josef Selig has established himself as one of the most renowned interpreters of major bass roles. He can be heard regularly in the roles of Gurnemanz, King Marke, Sarastro, Rocco, Osmin, Daland, Fiesco and Fasolt at all the world's major opera houses and international festivals. Recent guest engagements have taken him to London, the New York Met, Bayreuth, Munich, La Scala in Milan, the Paris opera houses and the Salzburg Festival, as well as the Teatro Real Madrid.) In 2012, he made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival as Daland, in 2024 as Marke (Tristan and Isolde) at the Glyndebourne Festival. The 2024/25 season began for the artist with Bruckner's Te Deum as part of a tour of Germany with the SWR Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Pablo Heras-Casado. He sang King Marke in a concert performance of Act 2 with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle at the Isarphilharmonie and appeared on stage as Gurnemanz in a concert version of Parsifal under Vasily Petrenko in Oslo.
