José Luis Medina
José Luis Medina studied flamenco guitar at the Conservatorio Superior de Córdoba and received essential inspiration from artists such as Alberto Lucena, Manolo Franco, Pedro Sierra, Miguel Ángel Cortés and Niño de Pura. Among the prizes he has been awarded are the 1st prize of the Fundación Cristina Heeren Córdoba in the category »Young Guitar Accompaniment« in 2005 and the 1st prize at the Concurso Anilla la Gitana de la Peña Flamenca de Ronda in the category »Flamenco Guitar«. This was followed in 2007 by the 1st prize at the Concurso Nacional de Guitarra para Jóvenes Aficionados in Jaén, in 2008 at the Festival Nacional de Jóvenes Flamencos in Calasparra, Murcia, in 2013 at the Jóvenes flamencos Córdoba in the category »Accompaniment«. In 2018 he won the 1st prize in Madrid at the Certamen Coreográfico de Danza Española y Flamenco in the category »Best Composition for Dance«. As a solo guitarist, José Luis Medina performs at many important international festivals, and he also works with renowned Spanish dance companies such as the ensembles of David Coria, Rafaela Carrasco and Ana Morales, among others.
