MAREK JANKOWSKI was born in Warsaw and was educated in Germany. His artistic career led him to assistant positions in Aachen, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Hamburg, as GMD to Freiburg im Breisgau (1973-1975) and as GMD to Dortmund (1975-1979). From 1984 to 2000 he was music director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, between 1986 and1990 principal conductor of the Gürzenich Orchesters in Cologne, from 1997 to 1999 principal guest conductor of the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester Berlin, between 2000 and 2005 musical director of the Orchestre de Monte Carlo, from 2001 to 2003 principal conductor of the Dresdner Philharmonie. As guest conductor he regularly conducts the most important international orchestras. As opera conductor he appeared on renowned stages, for example at the New York Met, the Bayerische Staatsoper, in Chicago, San Francisco, Hamburg, Berlin and Paris. Recent engagements for example include Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuther Festspiele, at the Enescu Festival as well as concertant performances of Siegfried in Tokyo. Up to now, he has conducted Salome and Rosenkavalier at the Wiener Staatsoper.
