During an engagement at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden he was responsible for the light design of »Grease«. This was followed by further training as a lighting master as well as a pyrotechnician and laser safety officer at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt. In 1995, Volker Weinhart moved to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg as lighting inspector. In 2001, he became assistant to the technical director and in 2004/05 head of the lighting department. His most important recent project was his light and video concept for Dietrich W. Hilsdorf’s production of Richard Wagner’s »Der Ring des Nibelungen« at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. For Martin Schläpfer’s ballet »Ein Deutsches Requiem« Volker Weinhart will be a guest at the Volksoper Wien in 2021.
